 Music Ministry The primary objective of the Music Ministry of our church is to glorify the name of the Almighty God through the medium of music. We believe that music is a gift from God to enable us to worship and fellowship, and this gift, rightly employed, serves as the most powerful and effective medium for praise. “Let everything that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD” Psalm 150:6
Other objectives:
· To use music as a tool for evangelism. Our worship and praise hymns during our church services are selectively chosen to promulgate the salient truths of the Bible. According to SOP writings, “Song is one of the most effective means of impressing spiritual truth upon the heart. Often by the words of sacred song, the springs of penitence and faith have been unsealed. ” Review and Herald, June 6, 1912
· To facilitate both the corporate and individual expression of praise, gratitude and worship to God through congregational singing or individual rendition of songs, testimonies, or the reading of the Holy Writings.
· T o train our church family on the effective use of the voice as an instrument of praise. “It is not loud singing that is needed, but clear intonation, correct pronunciation, and distinct utterance. Let all take time to cultivate the voice, so that God’s praise can be sung in clear, soft tones, not with harshness and shrillness that offend the ear. The ability to sing is the gift of God; let it be used to His glory.” Testimonies, Vol. 9, pp. 143,144 (1909)

The Co-op City Seventh-day Adventist Church currently hosts the Travelers Singing Ministry, a gospel singing group which has traveled throughout the US, Britain and the Caribbean. Please feel free to contact us for a singing engagement at your special event. (Lester Joseph (212.882.1135))

Special Events
Annually the Music Department conducts a music workshop for singers, accompanists, church leaders and other music enthusiasts. These workshops are designed to provide education on the ministry of music in the church and to provide guidelines on singing, choral conducting, and the appropriate use of instrumental accompaniments. Workshops are scheduled for the start of the calendar year.
Our Music Day features various participants from both within and without, but the highlight is the emphasis on congregational singing of the “good ‘ole hymns of faith.” Music Day is usually scheduled for October. See the church calendar of events for specific date.
Invitation
We invite you to join us for worship service on Sabbath at 9:15 a.m. You will have the opportunity to participate in our lively song service and be part of our Sabbath School. Worship continues with a special service at 11:00 a.m., preceded by a session of music, prayer and meditation. We promise that you will not go home except your cup of blessing is full and running over.
